I reckon he knew the answer 10 pages back,,,;)
MY answer is,,
its a 5 cylinder turbo.
you bought it.
LIVE with it.
;):D
the first thing i thought after reading the orig post was , harmonic imballance, i then read on to see who would be the first to guess that, lotsa got it.
and the TD5 wasnt dropped because of that, it wasnt going to be cost effictive to get it up to EU4 specs.
cheers GURU
why did you quote me??
i found this on the 2nd last page post #45
removing it wouldnt help you would want to make the damper larger to have the capacity to absorbe more harmonics.Quote:
removed the damper from the crankshaft pulley - made no difference
in the 70's engine builders were installing massey ferguson mecury filled dampers to the front of race spec holden 6's to counter the imballance at high revs.
i have one in the shed on a race motor, and it works quite well. but so dose knifedging a crank and dynamic ballancing.
cheers phil
oh and peedro is right, it is a TD5 thing...and i can live with it.
Yes. Agree. It's a Td5 thing ... mine seems to have a mild case of it around 2250rpm.
I can live with it.
... and so can Peedro ... sorry, Pedro! :)
Kev..
Replaced my Discovery 1 CDL assy with a Ashcroft Transmissions CDL kit. With the tunnel cover off I revved the engine to about 2500 rpm and there is definitely a metallic rattle coming from the bell-house area. Will check the drive/flex plate again just to be sure. HJad a check underneath the disco while my son was pressing the throttle to 2500 rpm. Only item that rattles is one of the transmission (X-Brake) brake pads. Have to fix that and then I should be good!
It will be the tc. When searching net for problem it's only autos that do it. Had my box checked out and the guy said that the boxes in the TD5 are good but the TC's are week. Seeing that mine didn't do it when I bought it then I would say it's not a TD5 thing but something in the TC that gives up. Just got to save up the £600 to have it replaced
how do you figure that?? they are the same as any other LT230, just the D2 ones have Q gears, Q for quiet and some dont have the CDL bits.
cant see how adding the CDL bits will induce weekness or vibrations?
cheers phil
ps, myD2a auto stopped vibrating after i re worked my exhaust system.
so one could surmise that the restrictions in the std system were causing too much back pressure and the pulses were being resonated through the system.
i suspect the majority of my TD5 harshness is in my ehxaust
