    black smoke,bit rich,bad economy....please help!!

    Hi,

I have a 99 td5 that has been giving me pretty poor fuel economy, around 650ks out of a tank, Ive noticed that it blows black smoke on hard acceleration, wont pull very hard around 3k revs, and smells fumey sometimes at idle. I have put the nanocom on it, and it reads 57-61gr/hr on the MAF flow test, at idle.
Recently I had to replace the intercooler pipe, from the turbo, as one blew out, along with the wastegate solenoid.....dont know if this is related.
I have also just had to do the manifold, as the front and rear studs had gone, dont know if this is because of overfueling.

I have no oil in the harness, a clean air filter, and apart from that Im not sure what is wrong with it.
Could it be one of the sensors playing up, or even the MAF, although the values sound ok, going by the other threads on here.??

I have a TRS ECU, SILICONE HOSES,NO EGR VALVE.

    At my wits end!!!

It sounds as though it might not be getting enough air. I'd check that the wastegate shaft isn't siezed, the actuator pin is still in place, the wastegate is actually closed and the modulator is working properly. I'd also clean the MAP sensor (in the inlet manifold), the inlet air temp/pressure sensor (in the airbox lid - it gets quite dirty) and the MAF if not done recently. I'd check the air filter too, having been caught by how quickly they clog enough to affect performance and economy.

    Thanks Greame,

Just wondering if you would know how to test the Map sensor with A Nanocom, and what values it should read.
Also do you think that the Maf is not the problem by the values given.???
Im lead to believe that they can be a problem even when they apear to be O.K.
How do you check that the wastegate shaft isnt seized? And also the actuator pin in place, and actually closed.
