Stereos for D2...Advice and Show em :-)

Hey Stevo,

I recently upgraded my stereo with just a decent head unit (JVC) that can has the AUX input and then upgraded all the speakers to Kickers. I didnt have the little tweeter in the A pillar like yours but its the same kind of speaker (they are called splits) accept I mounted my little speaker in the top of the door card. The front speakers (which are 6 1/4" inch by the way) were pretty exy ($280 for the pair) but they are really well worth the money, the sound quality is just amazing. I also upgraded the speakers in the rear doors with some 6" Kicker 3 Ways, these were a bit above $100 for the pair. For the bass i had a 12 inch sub and amp out of my old BMW which i fitted in. The sub is a 1200w Pioneer and its being run by a 850w monoblock amp, obviously the amp could be bigger but it runs the sub really well, i don't want doof doof so it just provides really good quality bass. I mounted the amp under the passenger seat. I currently just have the sub box in the rear and i have run the wires so i can easily just take it out if i ever have to pack up heaps for a big trip, i am currently looking into mounting it into the side in the rear though so i don't have it in the way.

Ive got one of these in the 7 seater. Bought it off Ebay two years ago. Have earlier version in Pathfinder and its lasted five years so far.

I put a set of 6.5" in 300W in the rear doors. I have a set to go in the front also. Just a bit chicken about pulling the door apart to fit them.

I had a 4" subby under the drivers seat until last weekend. I blew it up, so I wont be recommending that one :D i do like the big woofer in the compartment where one of the rear seats is. In nvere going to use it as a seven seater with one kid.

I dont have any probs off road with it as I have a left/right audio and video with a iPod classic (120G) attached. that has a couple of hundred CDs and about 25 full length movies that I ripped on my Ubuntu box with Handbrake.

I think the sound is better. The woofy was a cheapy but if did add some lower end sound and you notice its not there.

The bottom left one is for the reversing camera. I have two wireless reversing cameras. Thats the on off switch. When i hit it the screen pops out and turns on the camera. Didnt know what switch to use so thought why not another hazard :angel:

I have a brake controller near my left knee and on it is mounted the wireless control box where I can switch between cameras. One is rear fixed near the trailer plug. The other is a snazzy solar thing (actually a remote house unit) that I use on the front bar when off road.

Thanks for all the posts so far...at first it was just a thought...but now the juices are flowing ;). Some good looking set ups there. I'm a pretty simple bloke....so happy with a CD set up......all this ipod stuff does by head in ;), though I do like the look of some of dem fancy screens :cool:.

Pedro...in relation to that......any reason why couldn't be done with rear seats still there??

Because the seatbelts are in the way. It looks like Pedro has removed them and made the holes bigger for the speakers to fit in. Not too familiar with the 7 seates, but you could possibly put the speaker below the seatbelt holes...if theres room.

I'm the same Stevo - thought iPod was for the kids.

However, I bought one for myself a while back when I had the flat in Fremantle and was commuting up & down weekly, rather than having to have extra CD's or copies for some music down there. Had a couple of docking stations to go with it, including one on surround sound system in the lounge.

Since then, and also with the ability now to purchase music when I want to on iShop, I haven't looked back. I'm now kicking myself that the car stereo I put in the Disco isn't iPod compatible.

Even if you're not into iPods at the moment, strongly recommend that whatever stereo head unit you buy is iPod compatible. Usually will not cost any more, and you may regret it later (like me) when you catch up with the kids and find that all that music you have stored on your iPod and backed up on your computer cannot be used in your car without burning to CD.

CD's are a thing of the past - my kids have been telling me that for ages, and they're right (as usual).

gday mine is a jenson , yank brand, goes fine for the price, the screen is motorised so just close it when ur drivign on corregated roads and the radio keeps going, but ive driven corros with it open , it has steel arms that support it.

Go on, treat yourself.....get a Becker head unit......

If you like your music LOUD, ensure your amps are more powerful than your speakers (especially SUB.). Nothing sounds worse than a 'clipped' speaker.
