    D2a handbrake cable adjustment

Does anyone know the right procedure to adjust the handbrake cable ?

It's not the same as RAVE shows. See attached pic's of console end and underbody.

    Thanks
    Kev..

Yeah Baz, no luck I'm afraid. Tighten adjuster then back off 1.5 turns ... still takes 4, maybe 5 clicks to positivley engage the handbrake.

Looks like it adjusts from underneath I guess, but just how would be nice to know before I dive in, as there is no cable adjustment the the handbrake lever end like RAVE says there is ??

My 2001 TD5 is the same set up as your's, adjust the drum as per RAVE & then turn the nut on the cable in your other photo to adjust the lever travel you have to keep getting out from under the car to check your progress.

I'm surprised the cable needs adjustment, seeing as yours is a D2a, I've never had to adjust the cable only the drum, to be honest I've never looked, I'm assuming that mine is as the Rave says (I hope)

    Sorry I couldn't help.

    Baz.
    Cheers Baz.

    Thanks Roger!

So, turn the small nut on the cable outer (can't be seen in the photo as it's just inside the end of the foil outer insulation, just out of view), or the large nut that can be seen in the photo under the transmission tunnel ??

Baz, strange that my D2a (04) & Rogers (01) have the same hanbrake cable adjuster, and they are 3 years apart ... and they are NOT what RAVE says should be there ?? .... I think my cable might have been adjusted before as the thread in the photo appears to have 2 x different discoloured area's ... crappy stretchy cable maybe ??

Mmmm might just have a look myself, mine is an 01 model, I will need to adjust the cable eventually anyway, my handbrake at the moment is around 5/6 clicks for it to be fully on.

Something more to do, I'm getting too old for this

    Baz.

Too old !? .... mate, I'm 47 and I stopped being the spanner man on my cars when I bought my last car ... a toyota tarago ... no interest what so ever! Just give it to the mech' and wait for the bill ...

Now I own a D2 .... and I won't let ANY mech' (at least locally) touch it, and I'm enjoying being a spanner man again immensly !

Maybe I need to see a head specialist

    Kev..

PS - Let us know what you find with the cable adjuster ... it's a 2min job to pop the window switch panel to see what style it is.
