    Steering

The steering on my V8 discovery has changed.

Sometimes it feels lose and other times tight, I now almost have to fight it around corners etc.

    Any ideas?

It has just had a wheel alignment and the problem is still there.

Could it be the steering damper is worn out or possibly the power steering pump?

I suggest you block up the front wheels, turn the steering from lock to lock. If the steering goes loose-tight-loose as you turn it is probably a steering column universal seizing on one bearing.

Replaced the steering dampner on the disco with one from Bilstein tonight and problem solved.

The seal was gone in the original one so it would compress but not rebound back at all.
