Thread: Rhino rack leg length

I went with the 280 as I came to understand that the 210s needed to be modified and lets face it I don't have time to scratch my uhm...there are pics of mine on the thread "my wife has no ikea". I thnik they look fine, but its your own happiness that counts, right.

The 210mm legs will fit over the rear section but the crossbar is very close to the roof.....you can buy Rhino leg height spacers in either 10 or 20mm in height (comes complete with the bolt to suit). That way it will clear the roof with more room, however you need to be careful of any other attachments you need to fit if you plan on fitting a rack or basket, ski/bike/canoe racks etc on the cross bar as some of these may foul the roof line.

I used the 210mm legs with 20mm spacers (sold by Rhino) but you will need to profile the legs to suit the roof shape at the rear, a better option is to use Rola 230mm legs as they fit the shape of the roof out of the box (i had already brought the Rhino gear before I found out about the Rola ones)

I did the 210 and spacers and shaved a little off the leg to suit the roofline.

Apologies if I've misled you on this point....I've recently gone through this exercise myself and while checking out the different legs I took the 210mm legs out of the shop and placed them on my car to see the height difference, but I did not tighten them up just held them in place in the gutter. It appears from others that once properly in place they do in fact need changes to the profile.

My bad completely so apologies to all in this respect

However, I have one small problem with the front passenger side leg where the metal clamp on the underside of the leg catches the door when you open it. Drivers side is fine. Anyone else have this and how did you fix the problem (and don't say you hung off the door to lower it )

Franz, mine clear the front doors on both sides, is the clamp sitting the same on both sides? you may need to loosen it off & make sure it's fully home before tightening it again.

I had this same issue with mine, the drivers side door would not clear the leg as my drivers door appears to a few mm higher than the passenger side.

My fix was simple, I just moved the front rack back slightly so that it sits about 5mm behind the rear edge of the front doors.

Otherwise you could look at adjusting your door mount to lower the door slightly.

PS. I have come to realise that the panels on disco's are not straight and each vehicle tends to be slightly different.
