picked up some s/h Desert Dueler 235/85 tyres to put on my D2. managed with dificulty to get them all in the back of the D2 and took em off to the tyre place to be promptly told no, cant fit them they are illegal.
now i have to go back down to NSW and get my spare set of wheels and have them fitted "for offroad use". pita
ghey rules and regs
It isn't just a case of what can be fitted on the vehicle.
There is also the question of what can be fitted on the rim.
1973 Series III LWB 1983 - 2006
1998 300 Tdi Defender Trayback 2006 - often fitted with a Trayon slide-on camper.
yeah, its diameter increase only.
going from 235/70r16 to 235/85r16
falls oustide of the allowable increase in qld. even though its only 1 size up in profile.
stupid laws
think you will find for nsw/qld largest legal size is 245/70/16 for the d2, anything above that is illegal....unless you get a engineer to certificate the change.
cheers
I wouldn't think a tyre shop would care. They just might have been a tad unhelpful because they weren't supplying the tyres.
they were more than happy to fit them to rims for me, off vehicle, just not to the vehicle. fair enough i guess.
Just going through this in Melbourne.
Talked to the Engineer that LRAutomotive in Thomastown use - technically VicRoads still use VSI8 in which the tyres is 15mm greater in diameter. He said that he's been instructed to work to the requirements of NCOP - 50mm larger in diameter for 'off road' vehicles.
But... he told me I still had to get an engineer's certificate for the change in tyre size. Read into that what you will...
Tyre place is happy to fit 245/75R16's this weekend for me though - 40mm larger overall.
