    Up for tyres,

    G'day all.
    I'm wanting to replace the original tyres on my '04 disco TD5 manual. The originals are Michelin 4X4 255 65 16's. I want an all terain tyre of the more aggressive type. My short list is Pirelli, BFG, Cooper. Any feedback welcome. Regards Robbo.

    I am going with the Michelin Latitude Cross. There is a new lot coming in about 2 weeks. Have a look at the Michelin site/ The other is the LTX AT2.

    The tyre rack is a good option to buy them out of the USA as well. They do the LTX but not the latitude cross.

    local goodyear guys had roadstones for $199 ea in A/T pattern

    what amused me was the 205R16 are only $139 ea

    The michelin XPC which were standard on your car are brilliantm my all time favourite.

    I have just come back from a Landy event at Blinman with 93 cars present.

    No word of a lie, 60% were coopers me included.
    One bloke did complain about them but he ran at 60 psi.
    No womder they chipped.

    There were Pirelli scorpions which were popular and the new KM2's.

    I recommend Coopers as I and many friends that run them had great experience. I know there are others who had the opposite but you did ask.

    Can we close this can of worms somehow now.

    I've got the Cooper S/T 255/70*16 on my 2004 D2a TD5 Auto ... so far so good. Came with the Disco, so I'm stuck with working with what I've got.

    Pretty good grip offroad. Not too noisy onroad ... not cheap though. I'm happy enough with them.

    Just fitted a set of Pirelli Scorpions ATR tyres 245/70 R16 and they make an amazing difference, and that's coming from the original 255/65 R16 Michelins.

    Would recommend them if you're just after a replacement to the originals but don't need an agressive tread pattern. Feel a lot happier when off road now and they are no noisier and they grip far, far better than worn out Michelins.

    Best bit is that changing the size to 245/70 opens up a whole load of other brands. The 255/65 size seems to add an automatic $100 to the price.

    I also had to have the XPC's virtually ripped out of my cold dead fingers - loved 'em. Have gone for the Michelin Lattitude Cross in a 245 and so far seem very good on soft sand, chippy gravel and bitumen....hasn't rained over here for a while so can't make a call on their mud performance
