Airbags end with a bang not a whimper

Last week's holiday on Fraser Island was punctuated by both rear airbags letting go with bang on a moderately corrugated inland track. The bags themselves were fine and are probably still serviceable. They simply blew their tops! Top marks to MR Automotive who had replacements to me in <48hrs for a quick fix and return to the beach. The culprits were of US origin in case you were wondering - but had Contitech bags.
    Anyone had similar experiences?
    Cheers,
    Steve
PS: The remains of my efforts to epoxy the tops back on can be seen in the pic.

Nasty. They fitted Polyairs to our defender which I hammered around Fraser for a week just after fitment. I'm glad they didn't go pop

Not quite the same. Mine came off the retaining ring. "Apparently" they have fixed this by putting ribs on the inside of the rings to hold them in. Also, one of the bags stretched or ballooned out & was nearly rubbing the area around the bag. After 4 sets of the same bags, that's it from me from the same company!! I have bought OEM bags from Rovacraft.

    Yep both went in Pakistan,

Caused by the inner piston pushing up through the top after we went over a big speed bump.

I had a spacer under the spring which added to the problem. We have since gone to steel springs after being stuck in NW Pakistan for a month waiting for replacements to arrive.

All standard fare Pedro. The bumps weren't anything drastic either, but I will check for collision marks from the lower piston now after reading Andyb43's story.
Replacements are Bearmach - same rubber, same shape top but hopefully better material.
