Water in fuel? Fuel pump on way out? Rough running or no power?
Hi all. I have just had the first bit of trouble with my d2 td5.I was towing my boat down to bunbury , sitting on criuse controll about at95kph no dramas.
Then on a slight incline ,the engine started to miss. I switched off the cruise (and the music) and put my foot down on the deisel pedal and it started missing badly and is still doing it after being switched off for about half an hour and the boat off. It seems to happen at above 2000rpm and accelerating.
I thought it might be oil in the loom so i checked that , clean as.
Can any one give me any suggestions as to what it could be , Please?

Hi Freedriver,
You may have a MAF issue or as I had in my D2 TD5 the turbo modulator was on the way out. Both of these are fairly cheap and straight forward to replace. In the case of the MAF try taking is out and giving it a spray/clean with CRC contact cleaner as it may have a bit of muck or corrosion on it.
The other issue you could check are the intercooler pipes as you may have one of these delaminating inside, therefore blocking the airflow to the engine. Again these are straight forward to remove and check. So first up I would look at the intercooler pipes (won't cost you anything other that a little bit of time) then get some CRC contact cleaner for the MAF (this will cost you around $25 to $30) then you will probably need a nanocom or LR mechanic to check the turbo modulator.
All the best.
Tony
Thanks guys. I have fitted a set of silicon pipes on the intercooler about two months ago so i don't think thats it , un less it is leaking which i will check.Where do i find the MAF? The modulator looks new . I have only owned this d2 for 4 months.
If there was water in the fuel wouldn't a light come on ? I might replace the fuel filter just in case.
If you are 100% its not oil in the loom, try pulling the plug off your CPS (crank position sensor) and giving it a clean. I used to have intermittent issues like this particular when wet. The CPS had split around where the plug fitted and would let moisture in.
Do you get te engine light illuminated when it starts to miss?
Oil in injector harness (hasnt made it down to plug yet is possible)
Oil in harness also gets to CAS.
other causes:
Faulty MAF (or blown MAF fuse)
Turbo Modulator failed
Wastegate stuck on turbo.
oil in the harness X2 hasn't reached the computer yet.
check the black plug just as the harness comes out of the rocker cover on the left as you look from the front.

I can't say i am 100% sure about the loom. I just pulled off the big plugs on the ecu, will check where suggested.Thanks.
I had a look at the MAF, (is that between the air box and the turbo?) and it had a bit of oil film over it.I guess they are quite brittle because it broke apart when i wiped it with a rag . Woops , i haven't run it yet.
Where would i find the CAS?
Thanks.
We had a problem like this - it turned out the low pressure side of the fuel pump was dying - it quickly got so bad if you put power on ot would run on progressivly fewer cylinders until it stopped - after a while it'd come good if run at low power
Cheers
Matt
