Got a quote from youi today

2000 td5 auto 130k kms arb bar and winch, black widow drawers, towbar, SLS, UHF, driving lights, dual batt fitout.

Max agreed value they would insure for including all accessories $15900
makes car value about $11900!

other option was market value which was an amount to be assessed after the car is written off, i.e. paying insurance for an unspecified payout amount, Hmmmmm?

but going offroad "up to the max capability of the vehicle" excluding 4wd parks was included.

chose not to go with Youi.

I guess that's based on Redbook wich says your car (without accessories but with 180K + mileage) is worth $8,700 - $10,900 private sale and a dealer would offer you $5,800 - $8,000.

Shannons Insurance
2000 Disco 2 ES TD5 auto 260k, stock as a rock.
insured for $10990 @ $650 per year.

After being with the RACV, I dont mind paying the extra $$$ for the knowledge Shannons wont try to wiggle out of paying....

I've got my 2000 td5 d2 insured with Affinity, due to the 4x4 club discount I get as a LROCV member.

I'm possibly not a good example, as this is the first vehicle I've had anything more than third party on in 20+ years so don't have the gleaming "rating 1" that seems to makes a big the difference to premiums - the policy quotes a 60% NCB discount. I also live in Melbourne's inner north, which isn't particularly great for the risk ratings.

The D2 is insured for market value plus $2500 accessories, windscreen coverage, and 15,000+km travel per year. The premium is $912.85p.a. with no penalty for monthly direct debit.

To put this in context, youi was charging me $1,087pa with a penalty for monthly payment and no windscreen excess. Shannons quoted about 2-300 more than youi so I didn't even bother making a note of the exact amount. :eek:

That disclaimer I've italicised in the Youi policy is particularly ugly and seems to suggest they will pay out at trade price. It makes me very, very glad I moved to Affinity/CGU.

That sounds pretty good to me! What's Affinity like when it comes to claiming? In my experience RACV will do anything to knock back a claim and Youi was even worse. Youi wouldn’t even cover my wife if she drove my previous car (BA Falcon V8) because at 29 she was too young!

The price isn't as important as the knowledge that the company will be there for you when you need them, not be there to fight you when you need them (RACV...)

Affinity are basically brokers for CGU, so all claims go through CGU. The only claim I've made is for a broken windscreen and I didn't have any dramas on the insurance side of things.

HI All, Just did the insurance thingy on the '02 D2 comprehensive with Alliance. Agreed value of 15k is $850.63 market value was $787.19. Rating 1 with 1 free glass claim a year and 1 bingle claim a yr and not lose the rating 1, big of em!:D Some of the others I tried were like $1076 for market value only!! :O. so yeah shop around, This was through SSAA insurance brokers in SA, great lot to deal with.

I stopped Allianz because you are not covered off road, must be on a sign posted road was a condition of the policy.
