    RRC CDL into D2?

    I own a 1987 RRC (not running) that has factory fitted CDL.

    My 2000 model does not. I am planing on going to Frazer Island later this year and I am wondering if the RRC CDL can be fitted to a D2,

    It will be put back at a later date when I come back and D2 will get its own

    1987 classic with an lt230 transfer case?
    When they changed to Borg Warner?

    I will have a look and see but I think it is the borg warner box, I also had a look and it is an 1988 not a 1987- the engine says 1987

    Its not a quick job to pull the console, drill the rivets, pull the shifter, fit the actuator etc...

    I'd recommend going straight to a CDL suited to the D2...

    And the rattle and vibration from early actuators will drive you nuts inside the cabin!

    Mate if the output housing and internals will fit you can use that and just use a simple push pull cable to actuate it (I have mine on the transmission tunnel where it is easy to grab and use but I have seen them as buttons or push pulls near the high low lever.

    Tombie - I have heard people say that before about the D1 with their rod selector for the CDL, so clearly you are right but I must be lucky cause my 95 D1 with 285k on it is like a mouse mechanically including the centre diff shifter. Now I have said that it will probably start rattling!

    why dont you just engage the cdl manualy under the car when you about to get on the ferry to fraser and leave it on the entire time on fraser then when you exit the ferry disengage it with your trusty 10mm spanner manualy
    then when you get back from fraser you can get the proper one fitted

    I've just put a d1 shifter set up into mine this week and doesn't seem noisy at all, much better than having to put holes in the side of the trans tunnel or getting under a hot car and it still looks original!

    I've never had a problem with the D2 and no CDL on Fraser - the only real challenge is now closed because it washed into the sea anyway...

    My D2 on Fraser with 31 inch tyres before I fitted CDL was a thing of joy...and i have used it for years in deep sand without CDL - driving style and tyres and the biggest thing. Having just come back from Straddie and Main Beach's deep soft sand having CDL is a very nice addition - mostly from a standing start, but even higher speed its easier with CDL to keep relatively straight on soft sand.
