Disco Died
On Wednessday get home and the wife tells me the TD5 Disco is not running properly. I start it up and seems like it is running on 4 cylinders, and as Clarkson would say " does not have enough power to pull a greased stick out of a pigs @**".
So I checked the harness and cleaned out some oil, cleaned the maff and the other sensor in the air box, take for small test drive, a bit better but still no good, then changed the fuel filter, seemed to be a lot better but not 100%, so take for longer test run and get 1km down the road it stops and fails to fire.
Thursday tow truck is called, it is a sad moment when you see your Disco sitting on the back of a tow truck, and off to the mechanics it went.
Today diagnosed with dead fuel pump as suspected, hopefully be back on the road early next week as they did not have the part in stock.
I have to admit that it did go through my mind " at last fill up was it actually Diesel or did I have brain fart and put unleaded in", well it was definately diesel that drained from the fuel filter, and after checking my last fuel reciept I confirmed it was diesel that went in.
After 200,000+kms this is the first major let down by the Disco, and hope it is not the start of a Love hate relationship with it.
Some people baulk at sending their vehicle to the mechanics, and it annoys me when I have too, but sometimes it is quicker to pay someone that has all the proper diagnostic equipment and tools to get the job done then to try and work it out for your self.

Sorry to hear that mate but if you have 200 000Km out of her with no probs then you probably have to cut her some slack. Mine has done only 60 000Km and I have already suffered a breakdown care of chaffed fuel lines. I hope I get the same reliability out of my disco now i have sorted a few "generic" issues.

Hi Crash, sorry to hear about your drama. I'd be interested to know if the pump gave you any warning signs? Mine has a slight whiny noise and I'm wondering if yours did the same, I have an 03 d2 with 210 k on the clock. Hope it's the last problem you have with it

I did not notice any signs of any whinning before it stopped working.
It has been a reliable beast, but I do not skimp on servicing on it.
Only other major problem was a faulty boost controller but was covered under warranty - but it did not stop me and was still driveable.
