    New car, new problems....

    Hey guys,
I picked up my 01' V8 ES last night and now I have begun the REAL fault finding that only seems to happen once you have paid for the car it seems!

#1 - CD changer (under seat) - When selecting a CD it says 'no cartridge' of something along those lines, yet once you slide the cover open the big black thing sitting in there with small numbers 1>6 on the right hand side (as you look at it)?????
It looks to me it may have the number 2 cd selected, but maybe jammed??? I tried all that I can do with a knife, levering it (gently) side to side, up and down while trying to eject it but no joy!!!
    Any ideas guys?

#2 - Key and starting - it seems to be a bit temperamental about wanting to let you turn the key in the ignition. One minute its fine, the next its locked solid. I recon its to do with the alarm/immobiliser but I cant 'get' what it wants regarding locking/unlocking the doors. I hate my sisters WRX for similar issues. Going now to read the book - hopefully something will make sense?

#3 - Speaker tweeters in A Pillar - they definitely dont work (all the rest do) and the front speakers sound terrible because of it. Previous owner installed a hands free kit (in process of removing) and would have pulled off both A pillar covers so i hope they are just disconnected - but how do you get the covers off? (Will have a quick look on the site shortly).

Well, I expected to find things but not so many within 24 hours.......
No issues at the end of the day as its covered by the statutory warranty, but I only have 3 months to sort everything out. And I REALLY don't want the dealer touching it again if I can avoid it (second hand dealer, care factor = 0!)

Oh, and it sure needed a blow out too. Is the slowest feeling one I've driven, no jump on take-off, didnt want to rev, etc etc, but a tank full of 98 RON, flick the 'power' button on the auto, and I've been giving it a bit of a hiding and it seems to be 'loosening up'. Is that normal? Man it was a slug to start with!

    Any help much appreciated,
    Darian

This is a well known issue with the D2. Your ignition key barrel may be on the way out - ie the tumbler pins are either worn or sticking.

    Solutions

1 Try to work some graphite powder into the key slot - helps in the short term.
2 Remove the key and insert it the other way round - sometimes works.
3 Get a locksmith to change / clean the barrel.

Yep, what Pete said. Apparantly it can be the ball bearing in there. Insert key, then give the end of the key a tap with a small hammer like implement. This may free things up in the barrel. This is a temp fix only tho to get you moving. Beechboro 4x4 do reconditioning on these for a couple of hundred dollars, wreckers have had them for just under three hundred, and replacement new is just not worth talking about.

    cheers

Not sure if you have tried this but look for a small green button under the seat where the CD Changer is (l/h side as you look at it) and press this to remove the 6 stacker. Mine sometimes gives "cd error" after going off-road and needs to be ejected and re-loaded to work again.

For less than $20, buy the RAVE CD from this site, it has all the info you will ever need to keep you on the road.

To fix the sluggishness you could try cleaning the MAF with CO2 contact cleaner.
It's the bit with the electrical connection just passed the air box.
This is one of the first things I did to mine & the difference was astonishing & immediate.

With no 3, they just pull off, try from the top or bottom 1st, then just carefully pull off. its on tight, no screws or anything. then just bang them back on with the soft part of the side of your fist. (If that all makes sense!!)

    Thanks guys.
The CD definitely sounds like a good thing.

Regarding the CD changer, the eject button isnt doing anything except giving me the 'no cartridge' message on the screen, but I'm sure I'm looking at the changer with the cartridge in it - otherwise there would be a rectangular gap where the changer would sit?
I'm pretty sure the second CD is jammed or something, but i did try without being to nasty to push the plastic lug that I can see on the right side, but seems like it will need some force. I would like to unpower it cause sometimes these things can fix themselves, but not sure if the loom under the unit is for it or the seat?

The ignition sounds tricky. At 121000klms I hope it not too worn out? While I'm away this weekend I'm paying attention to it. It wouldnt turn over again yesterday, but I unlocked it and opened the boot first- maybe the alarm/immobiliser isnt happy doing it this way?

    Thanks again guys
