    Different tyres front and rear

    Gday All,

    With our Canning trip coming up and having goodyear silent armours on the car I have been offered 2 new Bridgestone d694 and was interesred in compareing them against the goodyears..
    Will having 2 different tread patterns on front/ rear (I will put both the same tyres on each axle) affect the diffs.We will be doing alot of low range with CDL..

    Peoples thoughts , expieriences etc would be great.

    I would be hesitant. It'll develop lash in the transfer case.

    as long as they are all the same size ie 245/75/16 then the tread pattern should not make any difference.

    I run federal AT's on the front and bridgestone AT's on the rear for road and beach work in standard size, never had any problems and also my dad has always run different tyres when I was growing up on his cruiser ute and defender and our family disco 1 and never had any problems.

    Ean, if you can access both types of tyre mounted, pump them up to normal operating pressure and run a tape around the circumference.
    If too far different, I wouldn't do it.
    Tyres marked the same size can differ enormously in actual measurements, and if too different in circumference it can overheat and kill the centre diff on the highway, let alone wind the transmission up badly off road.

    I've drained fluid from a Defender that was black and stunk as the Public Works department had fitted 235/85 Bridgestone MT's on one end and left the original 7.50/16 Michelin XZL's on the other.
    Can't recall a circumference measurement, but there was a good 1" difference in static diameter even though most people claim they are the same diameter.

    I think that even just uneven tyre wear from front to rear wears the centre diff shims.

    have AT tread wranglers on the back and ATR wranglers on the front (s111) no problems in almost 4 years but maybe series rovers are tuffer than discos
