    Noisy Fuel Pump

    Gday All,
Since fitting my long range tanks in my Td5 my fuel pump now sounds like a cat getting slowly skinned alive...It seems to be getting worse but maybe its just we notice it more.
I checked for leaks when I installed it and have filled it about 10 times since installing them but guess it could be the slightest of leaks...

Has anyone had this problem, and if so is it just the fact that the tanks are metal not plastic?..

    Thanks in advance

    Cheers Ean

I don't know exactly what difference there is with the diesel vs petrol pump, but the petrol D2 pumps are noisy in steel tanks. What I have done is to remove the pump assembly, carefully measure the depth of the tank, then crimp the sliding pillars on the pump to hold the pump 5-10mm off the bottom of the tank. You probably have to take off the swirl pot off the bottom of the pump assembly to get in there. I used pliers to carefully squash the tubes to limit down travel.

try bleeding it a couple of times.

Turn on ignition and press accelerator 7 times all the way to the floor. Engine icon on dash should start flashing. Take a few minutes to run through the process.
