It maybe time for the D2 to go

    Gday All,

I know this 1's been hashed a heap of times, but the D2 starting to add up in the $$$ spent range.
The latest is the clutch fork broken with a bent slave cylender pushrod, so may as well fit a new clutch and whilst its apart fit a new flywheel rear seal etc, so prob $2500 job, im not there so have to pay to get it done.
The 3 amigo's have been popping up abit of late, cars got 225k so the head will need to come off soon, so maybe time to start to think about moving it on..

Have had such a good run too, guess I cant complain to much and am doing more than really needs I guess..

    Time to think, me thinks..

    Cheers Ean

If you spend say $7k on your car now to get it mickey mouse, would you be happy with that.
That would be what you loose on stamp duty and depreciation in the 1st week of ownership of new car.

Thas my theory on new car purchases will I will never do again.
We bought a Golf for $42k 4 years ago.
One week ago we had a value of $22k put on it as trade in.

So from now on, I rather keep it, the wifes car anyhow and she loves it and buy something that makes me money instead.

    Property, shares(longterm) etc.

    Ean,

For what it is worth, I have spent $$$ on my D2 and feel comfortable that the things that I have spent the money on will last a LONG time (hopefully! ) - particularly when I do whatever repairs myself that are in my comfort zone.

The way I look at it is that the cost of buying and then fixing any hassles on a new (secondhand) vehicle will theoretically far outweigh the cost of maintaining the D2.

    Just my two cents worth.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply's..Yep common sense tells me with what I done to the car, and the extra stuff I have replaced as precaution then the car is well looked after..Have had it since it was a demo model so know it history inside out, If I was there to do the clutch myself, I could just replace the fork and the other bits and be happy, but seeing as tho im paying labour I may as well replace the whole lot and in theory not touch it again for 100k plus.

Think its more the frustration of paying to get work done, when the clutch was only replaced 60k ago, again a job I paid to get done..

Oh well I should know, if its got wheels,it Floats, or tits its going to cost $$$

    same boat

    Hey All
yeah Im in the same boat, 200K but the body and non mechanical bits are in such good nic, and as has been said in previous posts the amount in stamp duty and commercial loss when driving out of the show room, Ive made the decision to keep it it going.
Just replacing what Ive added to it is worth me spending the $$$ on it as it would cost much more than tha again if I got another one

If you think soon you will need to do some major engine work as well, why not buy and put in a TRS recoed 4.6 which would also make it real easy to fix the clutch issues at the same time.

Kills to birds with one stone and you end up with heaps more torque and top end with a recoed engine that should easily last you another 150,000 ks.

    Just a thought!

    cheers,
    Terry
