    Temperature Gauge

    Hi all

I've recently upgraded from a '95 V8 to a '99 TD5 and am mightily impressed with the pulling power of the engine. I live about 40km's south east of Adelaide and to be able to plonk the gearbox in 5th and set the cruise control at 105kph and not touch anything for the next half an hour is just too cool. Not to mention the fuel economy!

One thing I have noticed however is that the temperature gauge will rapidly (over a period of say 10 seconds) move from close to the bottom of its range to about half way. It will sit there for some time and then do the opposite.

Is this normal or should I be on the lookout for something?

    Regards

    David

There is a range of temperatures where the gauge will just sit in the middle. The gauge is driven by the engine management system computer. Instead of troubling the driver with the changes in temp, LR decided that you should only worry when it gets really hot. Many don't like this as it is too late when you find out the engine is too hot and there is little you can do about it.

    What he said
The gauge shouldn't be droping away though so that bit isn't normal.

Consider fitting one of these kits....

    temp guage

In the middle is normal,if the guage is dropping it could indicate (strangely) an overheating issue, check coolant levels,or a thermostat stuck in the open position.
