Hmm, related? Amigos, M&S, SLS comp relay ponderings.

    Hi all..

Here's something I was pondering the other day. I have:

    1. intermittent Amigos (gone on restart - haven't looked into them further yet - front brakes are squeeking a bit tho)
    2. Ocassional M & S light error/limp mode when first starting in the mornings (low battery? Poor selector switch contacts?)
    3. An overactive SLS compressor relay (which cost me a compressor recently) - having just replaced this relay (old one kept sticking on) noticed the new one "chitters" away after engine off. Not actually engaging the comp, but just rattling away like it isn't getting enough voltage to engage it properly.

Having read about "Oil in the loom" as a related to the Amigos.. what are your thoughts on this hypothesis:

If there was oil in the loom, and this way creating some kind of current leakage/crosstalk between wires inside, would this account for potentially all of the above?
    • The relay issue seems only to happen with a hot engine, is oil more conductive / does it affect the wire insulation qualities at a higher temperature?
    • If this is the case, it could be causing problems with the relay, giving it some kind of low voltage leak to "rattle" it, but not enough to actuate it properly (this assumes that wire loom is relevant in some way to the SLS relay / SLABS)
    • If the above were true, that may also account for a slow decline in the battery voltage, as it would use a constant trickle while warm.
    • And if that is the case, the lower battery could be causing my M & S light issue.

I've definitely go oil in places it shouldn't be.. like my driveway for example

Anyway, just thinking out loud. Keen to hear anyone's thoughts on my connect-the-dots game!

    Cheers,

    Wil

Bad earthing or water ingress comes to mind.
Check all your earthing points for starters.
I assume you have checked and therefore don't have oil in the harness!
