Thread: Not starting in Park

I had the same problem in a Falcon some time back.....just had to take it out of park and put it back again, no probs. Apparently there is a switch that engages in the park location and sometimes just doesn't catch the right way.
Needs rectifying regardless, but mine was not serious. Hopefully the LR issue is not serious either.

yep, it'll just be the switch needing a little love...

try seeing if it will try to start by selecting reverse then easing it forwards into park while you hold the key in the start position.

I had a similar problem which gradually got worse until I replaced the switch assembly.
Water ingress into the switch housing and resultant breakdown of a couple of the switches was the problem - made worse by the air con drain discharging above the switch.

You can see the water level mark on the switch housing cover.

Going by the picture looks like we can do a little preventative maintenance by pulling the switch out, clean and re-seal with some heavy duty gasket sealant.

Doable or not?

Pop off the selector lever housing first. D2s are renown for their money box in that area (coins slide under & jam the selector mechanism - not starting in P is often the first sign).

Probably the best preventative maintenance would be to extend and redirect the air con drain away from the switch.

The positioning of the switch does not make it easy to R & R. It also needs to be adjusted for correct operation, according to RAVE by using a special tool. However, I was able to adjust it by trial and error.

The replacement switch that I fitted had a slightly different shape around the seal area, presumably an improvement to eliminate the ingress of moisture.
