    Drivers window mechanism

Hi, The window on my D2 does not go up or down properly. I have had a look and the teeth on the mechanism appear to be damaged. I have been offered a unit from a D1. Does anybody know whether this will fit a D2 and can I fit the D2 electric motor to the D1 mechanism, or indeed does the D1 motor fit?. Thanks for any tips

Normally it's the nylon rollers in the frame that attaches to the window that fail. I would check those too.

As for whether D1 and D2 is the same... sorry don't know.

If the nylon rollers need replacing I think you can get stronger brass ones, just can't remember where I've seen them tho' maybe Les Richmond auto or Graeme cooper.

Yes - D1 and D2 window regulators are interchangeable.

Depending on what the damage is to the teeth, you may be able to repair it yourself. I recently purchased a new regulator as I was having the same problem. While I had the old one out to check out what was the problem(and before ordering the replacement), I tacked up the damaged section (usually right on the end of the driven gear) with the Mig welder, and put it back in.

The new regulator is still sitting in a box in the shed as a spare, with the old repaired one working fine so far. only difference is that the window now does not go fully down into the door when open (sticks up about 1/2 an inch) as where I welded it has restricted the length of travel slightly.

I got the replacement regulator from Rovacraft in Perth - cost was about $95 delivered from memory.
    Cheers .........

Only the front winder mechanisms are interchangable between the Series1 (mid 1995 onwards) and the Series 2 Disco. The rear ones are different.

I just fitted a home made nylon window slider and am sooo! pleased with it.
I got the idea from others on this website and have attached images of my fitted effort and the dimensions provided by others. I made slight variations. Mine is 40mm long and not 25mm. I bit longer will stop snagging due to rocking.
It was not until I looked at the action of a roller that I realised only a MORON would ever design such a thing. As it rotates against the wall of the channel it is subjected to opposing shearing forces as one side goes up and the other down. Frankly its a miracle they last so long. For my money - NEVER INSTALL A ROLLER - the physics is all wrong, a slider is best.
I used a $9 nylon bread board, a small hobby type saw and simple bolts. Make sure only nylon robs against the wall of the channel so countersink the bolt head properly.
On the thread I used two washers to allow rotation and lock tite on the nut.
The job took one hour plus buying the bread board.
So easy a city boy could do it!

I did the same only using a metal plate. Needles to say, returning from holiday I found the metals had reacted and welded together.

A **** idea only a city boy could have.
