I am pretty sure they run whenever the a/c is on. I may be wrong though. Someone will prob confirm shortly.

Hi everyone,
I have just recently picked up a 2004 V8. The thermo fan seems to run for long periods. It doesn't appear to be running hot so my first thought is a dicky switch. I live in Brisbane and wouldn't expect it to run much this time of year. What is the best way to test for a faulty switch? Is there anything else I should consider before jumping to conclusions? My diagnostic skills are somewhat lacking.
The discovery has been in the family since new and hasn't previously had any overheating issues.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

I can't vouch for the V8, but on my 2004 Td5, the fans run when the A/C is turned on, so I'd assume that it's how it should also be for the V8.

Thanks, I have checked and once it hits what I assume is full operating temperature (dead on middle of the gauge), it kicks on and then just keeps running regardless of whether the A/C is on or not. The temp gauge isn't fluctating at all. I'll keep investigating. I would prefer to find out if there is a problem now and not once I load it up.

my 03 V8 does the same thing. mine has just hadnew head gaskets ,water pump, now no leaks in cooling system , so i guess this is normal.
