    Better fuel economy

I recently returned from the kimberley doing gibb river etc. No issues except leaking hub seal on way home which will look at tomorrow. My questions are fully loaded with 2" lift, roof rack, 265/75/16 mickey thompsons and all camping gear I got at best 20l/100km on road. just thinking of ways of improving that, for future trips snorkel, chip, exhaust maybe? what do you guys think. Yes its a v8 and no I'm not buying a diesel(yet). I like the v8.

what speed did you sit on i have not long come back from a 4000km trip at 110-120km/h to karrajini and exmouth and with 265/75/16 mtz loaded with an extra 50l of fuel and 50ltrs of water we averaged 15.5l/100 which i thought was good concidering my mates new 76 series v8 diesel cruiser which did the same kms got 14.5l/100

    no roofracks,
after that its all about weight,,
LR did a pretty good job at tuning it for what it does,,

fully loaded a new 4.6 MAY get better economy,,,

    sounds good anyway

don't get me wrong I was pretty happy, just wondered if any mods could slightly improve things. I sat on just under 100km/hr. I did have a spare tyre, oztent, 2 chairs and 2 jerry cans on roof.

I think there is something not quite right.
A Thor runs at lambda at all times , and should give better economy.

I reckon your O2 sensors have died and/or your MAF.

I would take it to a dealer or someone with a reader and look at the errors as a first step. be aware that a MAF fault will often show an o2 sensor error or may not show an error, so maybe see if you can borrow one.

I get about 14.5 litres per 100Kms in my RRC towing my 600Kg plus camper trailer at 100Kmh.

For a Rover V8 I think that's pretty good, some how I don't think you'll get much better, but, it's a V8, in reality if you wanted economy you would not have bought a V8, so just enjoy your D2 and when you want economy get a TD5 or TDV6 D3

By the way we think 15l/100k is really bad economy and that's towing a 1.4ton camper going into a head wind in really hilly conditions

I reckon it sounds a bit thirtsy, especially if sitting under 100k's.

Maybe if your doing 110-120, I wouldnt be worried.

Unless it was hilly, start stop driving....never been to the kimberly so not sure about the roads there.

ok fixed my two leaks, just the "O" ring on rear (for now) not sure how much grease it washed out, also fixed front crankshaft seal that begun to leak(man that belt was hard to get back on lucky misses was around). Tomorrow i'm going to give the car a service and give the MAF sensor a clean (yes i will use the proper cleaner will see if this fixes consumption up a little.
