    ARB rear Locker P/N

    Hi guys,

    Just a query / question.

Has anyone used an ARB RD138 Locker in the rear of their D2 ?

Im aware ARB list the RD128 for the D2, however the 138 is listed for the D2 from 2002 on, but I can see / find no difference in the part numbers in the Land Rover IPC for D2's before and after that date for the standard diffs............both ARB lockers are the same ratio / splines etc.

I can get a 138 at a bargain price......so was looking at one of those very soon.

I think thats the P38 diff and you'll probably find the diff assembly wont go into the axle housing if you use that locker. You'll need to use the RD128. I'm sure that is a persisting error in the ARB catalogue. The only exception that I can think of is if the NAS 4.6 D2's had the P38 rear diff.
    Cheers

Well, I dont know any different Slunnie thats why I asked, for info if you look here you will see it lists the 138 from 2002> which is offcourse the same one listed for the P38. It does say none of the NAS vehicles had the larger diff which I find weird tbh, as they had the 4.6.

I'm not definate, but I think that a full Rover diff (RD128) will fit into a P38 housing, but the P38(RD138) diff definately wont fit into a Rover housing.

Ahhh, I see they have amended the catalogue. The P38 is ever so slightly larger and the flange that holds the crown wheel is different which is what limits its use for Rover diffs.

    You'll use the RD128
    Cheers

I thought that the main difference,is that on RD128 you'll have to use a spacer ring for the crown, not needed if you use an RD138 (for original rover C/P)
I also thought that every rover diff center, fits every diff carrier, just use the right combo of bearings an C/P's,the main difference on P38 and 110 rear(post sals axles), is the c/p design (thicker crown wheel - shorter pinion?)thats why they have a shorter carrier(3rd member).
Next week(hopefully) i'll be fitting some GBR 3.9 c/p and i intend of installing a 4pin diff of my buddys 110 at the same time,in the GBR box there is a spacer ring included with longer crown wheel bolts,i 'll see what goes where and report back..
