Quoted price on 04 CDL lever

    Hi All,

This is my first post so go easy on me

I have recently purchased a 1999 Discovery 2 ES 7 seat and have been looking at the available options. I have been quoted $1,045 for a genuine 04 CDL lever kit available in Perth. Is this the going rate for the genuine part? It seams to me that there are a multitude of options available in the $200 USD mark with presumably variable degrees of quality...

Is it the concensus here to opt for the genuine part? I'm probably looking for a reason to justify spending the extra money on the genuine part

If this is what you are getting installed.....
Ashcroft Transmissions - Disco II Diff lock
......why not buy and install it yourself?
There are plenty of step by step instructions on how to do it.

    Thanks Dan,

I have been looking at the Ashcroft version, at 245 pounds I should be able to import it for under $600 including shipping. Just wondering if people who used this are happy with the kit?

Yes I am very happy with mine!

As mentioned earlier when you talk to Ashcroft in the U.K. they will refer you to Rovacraft here in Perth as they are the agent for Ashcroft and will not send directly.
That was my experience, cost was $950 for the lever, $750 for the output housing and internals for the transfer case both prices inclusive of GST.

I picked up a genuine lever from a wreckers somewhere over on the right hand side of the continent (Ballina I think) after doing a ring around of wreckers. It was about $600 and it took me a while to fit it partly because I am a goose and partly because part of it was left on the donor vehicle (there is a thread hereabouts detailing my hamfisted progress). HOWEVER it was hands down the best mod I made to my 99 td5 and the factory unit is the best solution for a number of reasons (looks, NVH etc).

Get the Ashcroft CDL Kit. I drove around for 6 months with a CDL from a Disco 1. Works fine but contributes enormously to the drone / vibrations in the cabin. You don't want that! I then installed the Ashcroft CDL kit. Works perfect. It basically is a replica of the genuine item. Very smooth. Zero vibrations. Worth every penny.
