Aren't they the ones where they set themselves after installing? You might just have to pull out the actuator if there is no adjustment.

G'day. Yes I have had this problem. It was still under warranty so the dealer just fitted a new switch. No problem since.

I think if you depress the pedal & pull out the actuating plunger in the switch & then release the pedal, it will reset.

There has been known problems with the brake light switch which will need to be replaced.

I found out when another driver informed me that I had no stop lights. The bulbs & fuses where fine and it came down to the switch. I removed, had a fiddle and then the actuator plunged into the switch and was never to be the same. It wouldn't return to its original position.

The switch is fairly cheap so I would just replace it.

This switch has a cam mechanism which can be damaged without too much effort. Try depressing the switch plunger a little (couple of mm) at which point you should be able to remove the switch fairly readily.

It is a self-setting switch, so if a 'gap' has appeared it may be the result of worn pedal assembly bushings etc. i.e. does your brake pedal have freeplay? Refitting the switch should take care of the problem. If it doesn't, replace it.

Note, some Ford vehicles also use the same switch.

2003 td5 and my brake lights are staying on even when turn ignition off ? Also weird, if I press brake pedal without key in ignition, all the dash lights come on ? Could this all be to do with the brake switch on the brake pedal, or something more sinister ?

yes, that's much more sinister... make a test, try the wipers and the windows without the key in ignition while the brake lights are on... if they work it means the ignition switch is blocked on 2A position corroborated with another issue... if the wipers and windows dont work remove fuse F25 interior fusebox and see if it happens after that or not and report back....maybe i'm not gonna answer immediately cos it's time for me to go to sleep but i'll come back later on and help you fix it if you are up to DIY... this might be hard to diagnose or expensive cos it's possible that there's a short within the fusebox

is the high mounted brake lamp on too or just the others?
