    Disco 2 Gearbox Replacement

Just killed the gearbox on the TD5 after 240,000 ks

I was wondering what the ballpark cost of replacement (labour & parts) is likely to be?

    Cheers.

You might get a better response if you tell people which gearbox you are talking about rather than waiting for people to extract every bit of information.

    Hi All,
If you're talking auto, mine was rebuilt for around $2.5k, but that did not include remove and replace.

I also had a new water pump, viscous fan, oil cooler mod, front tailshaft mod, XYZ switch and everything serviced at the same time.

the whole lot left me with a little change from $7.5k.

Drives like new again, so will keep it a bit longer.

I presume a ZF auto box.

I got a rebuild from ZF in sydney- you can google them for details and had it shipped by ZF to my local auto transmission shop for the transplant operation. ZF were really on the ball including return freight. They want a deposit that is refunded when they get your old one back to them. It was a good service. The surgeons fees were about $ 900 and I forget the price from ZF but about $ 2-3,000. I just remember that it was more than $ 1000 saved on the local auto transmission joint doing the rebuild.

    Auto tran available for sale

    Hi

    I have a 1999 Auto V8 for spare parts, but have a Manual V8 for a driver.

If anyone is interested in buying the Gearbox from me - please contact me. Only "manual" parts are required for the "Driver", so the gearbox is a waste of space.

Car had done 150,000 (?) at time of acident. everything well serviced up till then.
