Which tyre and rim set should i get??

    Hi Guys,

I currently have the standard 18" SE rims but thinking about getting and whole new set for the weekend adventures.

    1. Is it worth it?
    2. If yes what should I get?
    3. Where should i get them from?

    Cheers

I tend to think so, depending on what type of 4WDing you want to do and what tyre size you want to run.

If its just good fire trail stuff, then I wouldn't bother getting anything.

If you want to get into harder stuff or to do it more regularly and are in a position to get rims and tyre, then the 16" rims are the way to go.

I would work out what size tyre you want to run first, and if it is a 265/75-16 or taller/wider then I'd look at a factory Disco2 or Range Rover P38 16x8" rim. If you are looking at a 265/75-16 or smaller then a Discovery2 16x7" rim.

My opinion is that the Land Rover alloy rims are better than the aftermarket rims as they are strong and they also have a very very good bead retaining lip on them. Of course the offset works very well also.
    Cheers

Hi I'm going through the same dilema and think I will try the General Grabber AT2 tyres and keep my 18 inch alloys, I have heard good reports on here about them. I dont think I want really serious off rd tyres but do want a bit more grip. ( Google General Grabber Tyres).

I was happy enough where the road tyres took us in the Wombat state forest on a wet muddy weekend, but a bit more more grip would have made life a bit easier

All good getting the grabbers , unless you want to let some air out and go over rocks. Then you risk pinching the tyres , chipping the rim, or both.
