    replace head gasket

Gday i am about to change the head gasket on a td5 disco and want to know can I leave the injector rail attached to the head ( and unhook all the hoses) or does it have to be removed. Pain in the a*** to get access to the nuts

    landoverharry,
I cannot offer any advice on whether you can do this without taking hoses etc off but I have a copy of the Land Rover workshop manuals which may help you get it done in a logical sequence if that will help?
Only problem is they are huge (564MB complete) to be uploaded in full if you want the relevant section PM me and I will email it to you.
    Cheers

there is no "injector rail" on the td5, the injectors are in the head and the fuel gallery is part of the head. you can leave the injectors in just make sure that you support the head on a piece of wood so that the injector nozzles dont douch anything when you put it down. lots of lint free rags help.

    Hi Harry,

There is a great couple of TD5 head removal and pull down posts I think in the Tutorials area. It is of a Defender TD5 but essentially they are the same engine but the Defender has more room in the engine bay.

I used these back in March to fix my head gasket problem and they were excellent. It is a real step by step with photos tutorial.

I can't remember why posted the tutorial but just do a search for Head Gasket Removal and you will find it. From memory there are 3 separate tutorials by the same member that follow the process through.

Also, a Rave CD from the forums market place is your friend as you will need to know the torc settings for all the nuts and bolts.

    All the best.

    Tony
