Thread: Disco II Weight Distribution Tow Bar Package RAA527

    Hi,

    Thanks for the replies

No I didn't use a WDH on my last tow car

The Disco was towing the old float with no problems, the new float is a problem though

Do you know where I can get my hands on the technical service bulletin?

I took the Disco to a tow bar place and they were trying to figure out if the SLS could be "locked" into one position

    Cheers

    RAA527 Towing Kit

    Hi.

I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the technical bulletin on the RAA527?

I'm curious to know whether the tow ball rating would increase by installing the RAA527 and if so by how many kgs - otherwise I will have to sell the Disco and buy something else which I am keen to avoid

    Cheers

    Hi All,

For those that may have been interested in this topic now or in the future, I tried looking for the technical bulletin for RAA527 from a number of sources including LRA, Hayman Reese, Google and on this forum (including PM's to certain members on this forum that had written they have a copy of it - but no reply was received from them - maybe they have sold their cars since then etc) but unfortunately I had no luck.

Sad as it is, I was forced to sell the 2003 td5 Discovery (with self levelling air suspension) as the tow ball weight rating (250kg) was just too low for our needs (320kg towing 3500kg) and I had no way of determining if the RAA527 would have increased the tow ball weight limit. (I know that was a long shot, but hey you never know) The trailer would sway dangerously even at low speeds and it wasn't legal so the Disco had to go.

The replacement vehicle is all good and tows beautifully and safely without sway bars or anything like that.

Anyway, I appreciate and thank you to those that replied

Luckily it was late at night and there was no traffic ... there was no room on the car float to move the car aft a bit to reduce the hitch weight ... maybe next time I'll reverse the car onto the float (fwd car btw).

Otherwise, on the open road it handled superbly ... stopping on a level road didn't produce the same result.

    Kev..

You reckon that this was scary stuff. Not as scary as having your trailer trying to overtake your tow tug
and I have seen this happen with a trailer having a car on backwards.

So, might be a silly question,
I've got coils with air bag support, ie no SLS, and I tow a caravan of about 2T.
If I add WDH (which I'd love to do), can I use it with the standard tow bar, as long as the weight on the ball remains at less than 250kg?

There is probably no reason why you can't. However, if your air assisted springs keeps the car level with the van on, there is probably no need for WDH.

If you did use a WDH though, you would probably put less air in the bags and therefore probably less stress on the arse of the car, sharing some of the load to the front.

Just an opinion. If it was my car I would try with and without WDH
