It did however have a full service history up to 210,000 but nothing after that so its missing about 40k. Both the interior and body work was very clean and tidy with only slight wear on the drivers side seat boulster and the fake leather gator on the handbreak was crumbling a flaking off, but on the whole great condition with no signs of extreme off roading underneath.
Now the 1996 one I looked at had a gear level for the high and low range and also for the diff lock (I guess you all know this but I am a newby), how does this one lock the diff's as the little gear lever only had high and low on it? 1996 will be series 1 disco, series 2 are from 1999 on, all D1's have a center diff lock, the D2's had them 1999 to early 2002, for the rest of 2002 they didnt have a center diff lock (you dont want this!) so if the 1999 D2 you looked at didnt say ''lock'' on the small stick then either someone has replaced the transfer case or stuck the wrong lever on it.
It did have a tow bar fitted and some typ of a gadget fitted in the cockpit that seemed to have some thing to do with it (but not sure what it did except light up every time I braked) trailer electric brake controller.
So its high milage and a lot of towing is this a combiantion I should be wary of on the TD5 or is it a solid engine and I shouldnt worry too much?
good service history= good motor, cant say the same about the diff's though, they are a bit weak. you would need to find out the details of its service history to see if the usuall things have been fix/replaced, ie plastic head dowls, has the head cracked/been repaired/replaced etc warped exhaust manifold? the turbo will be showing signs of wear at 248thou too, has it had its injector harness and or engine harness replaced due to oil contamination?
Anyway it was up for $10,999 which is right on the edge of what I can afford and doesn't leave much spare cash in case anything big breaks so I am hoping to get that down a bit closer to $9000
my advise would be not to go near any of the land rovers at smaller car yards, i went through 4 D2's before i got mine looking for a ''good'' one at a car yard, they just dont inspire me with confidance. i got mine privately through car sales, if you buy your LR from someone who lives LR then 9 times out of 10 you'll be sweet!
What are your opinions?
