    Coolant leak

I seem to have a coolant leak/weep from the water jacket plug in the cylinder head. Has anyone else had a leak here, is it common?

Yes, very common. You will need to remove the exhaust manifold to rectify it, while you do this make sure you check the manifold for warpage, and replace all the studs and nuts NOW before they break. just remove the plug, clean all the factory sealant off the thread thoroughly and reseal with a good quality sealant like Wurth250 or similar.

    Dylan,
I had this happen to mine as well, As JC has said, while the manifold is off, do some preventative maintenance & fix/rectify what is needed.
I had some problems trying to find a tap the same size, found one eventually as the bung in mine left some thread in the head. I re-tapped & vacuumed the head to rid all the swarf away. New sealant, new plug & away i went. Never leaked again.
    Good luck.

And drill/tap for a future EGT gauge!!!!!
Even if you put a bung in it.
There is info on the Thermogaurd site for the thread size.

I know this is an old thread, but wasn't able to find the size of the hex key needed to take this plug out on this site, and was pretty big. I'm just writing here to confirm that it needs a 12mm hex head, not a 1/2 inch or 13mm.

12mm are easier to get, so should save the NEXT person from buying a larger/more expensive kit to make sure they have the right one

I think I have the same problem. Any tutorial on this? Thanks

Actually mine is losing coolant and I found traces of coolant on the exhaust manifold and under. Could it be leaking exhaust manifold? Thanks.

I just had a look too as I am losing also. I found a small trace of dried coolant too. I will post a pic shortly and let me know if it's similar so we can see if we're dealing with the same issue.
