which suspension to buy? its time....
ive searched on here and found plenty of different suspension kits.
i have put it down to the fact that even after reading about all the different types, i still cant decide what to get.
SO.
its a 00 td5
i want to spend around 800, but if i do find something SO much better, could be tempted to go to 1000.
the extra things i have are, nudge bar, spotties, dual battery in boot on the left side, tow bar ( every now and then i tow a boat or trailer, but not all the time), and nothing else really planned to go on. i have made up a housing for a winch, which i may bolt to the chassis at a later stage but im still in the design process for that.
So basically im down to just deciding what to get... online seems to be the way to go price wise, and i can fit it myself.
i have looked at, suspension stuff, climax suspension, ebay, and most listed on here.
this is the only time i am going to ask, and will decide which kit to get from the replies on here as many of you have experienced all different types of kits.... obviously better quality is good, but i do have to stick to my budget.
also, what about just putting in springs and leaving the original shocks...?... although i would like to just put all new equipment in.
i do like to go offroading frequently and do go on longer trips...i frequent at power line track so mud and rock are more so what i do.
thanks in advance

Jack, I'd have a look at King spring 2" springs. They are nice and soft for a light vehicle like yours and also unlike most aftermarket springs which are quite stiff. The softness will be good for maintaining good even ground pressure and for ride comfort. You may need 20mm polyurethane spring shims for the rear to level it out. Other stiffer springs will make it handle better though.
Standard front shocks will work without any problems with the King springs. The rear factory shocks will not and I would look at some aftermarket shocks which are designed to work with Disco2 2" lifts such as OME etc as they provide the most length available within the Disco2's limitations. I would however be inclined to replace shocks as sets of 4 if budget permits as these have a significant effect on balanced handling.

Cant help with best deals in your area (or mine!), but I wouldn't change any bushes apart from the ones which will come with the replacement shocks.

Everyone has their own opinion on this and I'm sure some will speak against whatever is suggested, but on a budget you do what you can.
I put in an Ironman kit......springs on the back are mid range but use polyairs for towing the offroad camper. The fronts were a bit heavier to allow for the winch/bullbar, which only go on in a couple of weeks. Used the bigger foam cell shocks and steering damper.
All worked well towing the camper from Nocundra to Broken Hill on the dirt. Been very happy so far.
My $0.02 worth.

and for the ironman kit, with the foam cells, what sort of price range would i be looking at?
cheers
edit: yeah i understand what you mean by people liking/disliking brands and that is fact! but i will just give it a week or two and see which one takes my fancy the most.. and obviously here people can give there 2c

I have Dobinson Extra Heavy Coils and Bilstein Extended D2 Shocks and Bilstein Steering Dampner.
Cost around $1100 through Suspension Stuff. I am extremely happy with the ride, even if its a bit on the firm side with the heavy springs.
I would definetely recommend this setup for touring etc. but I find the upwards spring travel is limited without a lot of weight over the front. Should get better once the winch and dual batteries go in.

yeah this was another option, i have found that suspension stuff seem to have a good rep, and the dobinsons go well with bilstein.
will have another look. cheers for the price.

I just installed the 2" mates rates kit from suspension stuff on my 04 v8. I don't tow often and travel quite lightly. I went with what they recommended and am pretty happy. The compression rates seem balanced and appropriate so far. The shocks have firmed up the ride nicely but I was expecting the small bump compliance to
be a little softer than it is. I don't know if it would have been better going with something else. It is probably more a case of high expectations.
My mate has been running his same set up for almost a year now and is also quite happy.
The guys at suspension stuff were very helpful and the price was right.
