    Head gasket

People keep warning me that the head goes on a D2 at about 150k, is this true? if the cooling system is maintained will it be ok? Someone said it was caused by the plastic dowels and to replace them and the gasket before it fails. What are your thoughts on this?

Err, No. I've seen them fail at that mileage, only when severely overheated. I have quite a few early Td5's still without head issues at 250to 290K. ONLY seems to be early problems if the cooling system isn't in good condition and / or been overheated.

    They are pretty good really.

Mine went at 210000km but only because it overheated. The previous owner had the thermostat replaced and whoever did it, put it in with the outlets back-to-front.
