I would say keep it, mine has done a similar amount of kms, and all I have done is the head, as I over heated it once. If you have kept your cooling system in check, then you shouldn't have any issues with that. At those Kms I replaced all my coolant hoses to give me piece of mind, and kept the old ones as spares. A new radiator and fan might also be on the cards.

The steering knuckle balljoints can also wear out, but once you replace them they can still go for another 250k kms.

Other things that might be worth looking at are oil leaks, the pinion and transfer case output seals start to weep, but fortunately those seals are cheap and easy to replace.

It will all come down to your decision, but something that will be in your favour is the fact that you know the car well seeing you've had it since new. I would say getting another car and then adding accessories will cost a lot more, even double, than just replacing a few parts on a car you already know and a car that will be able to give you many more miles in the future.

By the way, I met a D2 owner the other day, whose car has 400k kms on it, and he has done nothing major to it. So it shows you what these things can do, if you keep the service up on them.

About a week, probably.

I have 225 on mine and like Hendrik have had to do the head gasket. (owing to poor cooling system maintenance by previous owner)
Any vehicle with this amount of ks will appreciate some seals being thrown at it sooner or later. Possible brakes too.

If you have always stayed on top of maintenance i.e repairing / replacing items like belts, hoses, pads, suspension, seals as they become worn or due, then you will likely see another 250kms from it.

If your maintenace philosophy is replace it only when its dead and service the minimum amount at the maximum intervals, with the cheapest parts and lubricants, then you will have a varying time frame for major work. If it is a manual you may want to think about the possibility of a clutch replacemnet.

All vehicles with the sort of ks you mention are in the second hand yard because the previous owners have enough money to trade up before any (theoretical) maintenance issues arise.

IMO you could end up with just as many issues with a 150k vehicle as a well cared for 250k vehicle. But you will know how well you have cared for your truck.

Why not do the head, rod the radiator, check wiring harness and full service with oils etc.
May cost you $3k but still better than $20K, that way you know what you have done and will see you through another few years.

Prevention is better than a cure--IMHO.

I totally agree with strangy's comments, and reckon you've got ages to go yet before you need to start worrying - AS LONG AS its been pretty well looked after. I've known people in the UK with close on 300,000 miles (MILES....not KM's = approx 480,000kms) on a well looked after diesel engine.

I'm a new D2 owner and am confident that I will have 300-350K's before any major issues. I see that a common thread throughout the previous posts is constant maintenance!!

By maintenance I mean - don't wait for the scheduled service time to elapse before driving to your local workshop....open the bonnet weekly and check everything. If you are doing a lot of off and on-road driving, drop the oil regularly and replace the filters. Clean oil and fresh filters are a cheap insurance for turbo and engine longivety...and are within the reach of most 'back-yard' mechanics. While you have the bonnet open, crawl underneath with a grease gun and lube them nipples

My previous D1 went for 385,000 trouble free kilometres before I sold it - reluctantly to a mate! He promptly killed it within 50K due to a lack of attention to small mechanical issues that became major in a short time.

I'm probably preaching to the converted about the significant benefits of a well looked after diesel engine......We all know how truckies log up a million+ kilometres per year on the same engine - mine sites run graders/scrapers/dump trucks 24/7, 11 months a year....trawlers spend months at sea relying on the same engine.

I'm a marine engineer and am a firm believer in - clean oil, clean fuel for a happy engine........oh yeah - warm them up before driving away and allow the turbo to run down and heat stabilise before shutting off.

Thanks guys, I think you all have convinced me to stick with it. I have attended to all the service issues that crop up from time to time and have got those seals and joints replaced when necessary. i have only serviced is every 20K though. Now for the accessorizing! Who to talk to about dual battery and long range tank in Perth?

May I suggest, drop the oil and filter every 10K at the minimum.

I may be old school but I do every 7500km's.

Not sure about rest of stuff in Perth though but am sure any auto electrician can do dual batt with Red arc or similar. Get them to wire in a rear fridge point at same time to run off the 2nd battery.
