What is this mount for ?

When we bought the D2a last year it came fitted with an in car mobile phone kit.

Since we didn't have a phone to suite it, and don't need a car phone kit, I pulled it all out this afternoon ... phone cradle on the centre console, underdash speaker & controller box, A pillar mounted mic', wiring, antenna, etc ...

There is also another cradle, mounted at the bottom of the drivers side A pillar, with a Land Rover green oval badge on it, with 2x cables ... 1 attached to the cradle, and the other one looks like a Nokia phone power plug ... the incar kit I removed was for a Nokia phone.

See the attached pictures. What was this mount/cradle for ?

One cable is attached to the bottom of the cradle, the other is loose, there's a flat platform behind the cradle, and when I test the wiring with a multimeter, the barrel of the Nokia style power plug & the outer metal shell of the cradle plug (above the green oval) are continous to the ring lug on the black cable shown (with the cable disconnected from the vehicle). That's two wires on the dash to one wire under the dash ? This balck cable was connected to the body/earth under the dash.

The red wire with the crimp/spade lug is continuos to nothing I could find ?? It was plugged into a live/+ terminal in the under dash fuse box.

ATM the cradle is being used to clip my handheld UHF onto with its belt-clip, and it works well for this purpose ... but what's the cradle for ? ... and what's the little platform behind it & the extra (power?) cable for ?

I am assuming they were dealer/factory fitted.

Think that model Disco came out with an optional in-car Nav system and am sure that's where it was mounted..

It's a HP Ipaq 19 or 2200 series PDA. They are now obsolete and newer Ipaq's don't have the same mount.

    Cheers,
