i was thinking today possibly a qsb 4.5 cummins would be a good swap....
G'day all.
Just a hypothetical question, don't need this doing (yet!), but wondered if anyone can point me in any direction regarding swapping the D2V8 engine out for a transplanted good diesel engine?
Are there many options?
Is the TD5 a suitable donor?
Who does them (if anybody, pref WA/Perth)?
Possible cost?
Is it even possible?
Like I say, just looking for info right now, this isn't a "real" job, just pondering over a boring lunch break....
Cheers in advance,

v6 diesel out of a D3 would be a nice fit
D3 v6 sounds nice. But what about a Puma?
A TDV6 out of a D3 would be awesome they are such a great motor would be tops in a D2 solid coil sprung axles + TDV6= KICKASS!!!!!
TOO HARD STOP DREAMING!!!!
Much cheaper to buy the vehicle you need/want.
TOO MANY HEADACHES,LOTZ OF $$$ and the vehicle is worth no more at the end.

Sell the V8 Disco and buy a diesel Disco? Take all the good bits from your current one and put them on the new one... All done![]()
If you want to dream, why not do it properly.
A turbo/supercharged 12V71 Detroit. Would fit nicely in the rear and then you would have all that empty under bonnet space.
And then just think about that Jimmy scream, they're 2 stroke after all!![]()
You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
The constant fuel consumption jibes getting to you mate?
I hope Beefy has seen this post he'll be over the moon with the ammo you've just gifted him!!!

No mate, was just something that popped into my head. I used to own a late 80's Hilux ute (2.0 petrol, manual) years ago back in the UK. A mate bought it from me for next to nothing, and decided to put in a Rover 3.9 V8 out of an old Rover SD1. The transfer conversion plate thingy was dead easy to get hold of and extremely cheap (about 50 quid). He got in touch a little while ago and it jogged my memory and got me thinking.
So I was just curious if swapping the existing V8 I have to an alternative diesel engine was a do-able option.
I love my V8 immensely, and think its a great motor, and way prefer the shape and feel of the D2 over the D3/D4 models (just my own personal opinion). Similarly, just getting rid of it for the sake of buying a D2 TD5 is not a cost effective option either, considering the resale value of my V8 against a similarly conditioned TD5 equivalent (with more untold existing problems).
Whilst fuel consumption is high, it doesn't really bother me too much. I knew it would be high when I bought it. But its still an awesome motor (even more so when its running right!).
No, this was purely "one of those questions"! Not looking for engines with millions of HP, or something that could tug a Boeing, just a good reliable, do-able, affordable kind of option should a blown engine ever arise (again).
Thanks for all the comments so far guys....
Cheers,
