Suspension Installation
Hi Guys,
looking at buying a Suspension Stuff Mate's Rates kit with the Lovells shocks and Dobinsons coils.
I was wondering how difficult the installation of the kit is. I am not a great handyman, and have read a couple of articles. It doesn't seem too hard, but i don't want to bite off more than i can chew.
Any advice gratefully accepted - be brutally honest.
Paul.

Hi Paul.
I fitted a Lovells kit last weekend by myself.
I am a mechanic by trade, but it isnt hard at all.
Make sure you have access to a spring compressor (double grip type better, $50 at supercrap)-you WILL need it to do the job.
The only real problems I had was compressing the new springs far enough to make them fit in. What I did was , with the front springs, leave the bottom plate out at first, compress them as far as you can, put them over the "knob" where the bottom plate fits on, then stick a jack under the axle and jack it up as high as you can, then tighten up the compressor some more.
This should allow enough room to slide the bottom plate in.
I had a similar problem with the rear springs, just sit them in the axle tube with the top part located, and jack it up tightening the compressor again as far as you can go.
This allows you to get the bottom located.
It took me an hour or so to do the first spring (and work out how to compress it enough) then the others took 1/2 an hour or so each.
My springs are heavy duty +50mm, so had a lot of tension on them.
Very happy with the result, lifted the car about 75mm in each corner (but only 40mm from standard height, because my springs were really sagged) and I have dual gas tanks/extra 40L fuel tank and tools/recovery gear in the back, and a bull bar/winch coming this week).
So far happy with the ride on the tarmac, haven't tested them in anger yet though.
Hope this helps.

Forgot to mention, you will need to unclip all the ABS leads and also remove the clip on the rear brake hoses so you can lower the suspension as far as possible, without stretching the ABS and brake lines (this will allow them to slide down through the hole to give you more room to fit the spring).
And you will possibly need to get a spacer for the front crossmember , depending on your lift (there is a thread about this from about 2 weeks ago).I just went and got a set from LRA for $50, didn't have the time to muck around and make a set.
