Thread: D2a Hot Water Heat Exchanger

Off track a bit,i didn't want to cut into cooling system,etc,so what i did was pick up a shower kit from a camping shop.Had a little 12volt pump,worked very well,better than i expected.It sucks out of a bucket of water,or a creek,or whatever.You would be surprised how long a bucket of water lasts.
Just had a look for it so i could tell you the brand but it appears one of my sons has borrowed it & has not returned it

Not an exact answer to your question, but here's what we do. One small 12v bilge pump from Super Cheap suitable length of cable cig lighter plug, a bit of garden hose, 20 litre bucket and an old shower head on a pole.

We set this up in a cheap shower tent from Rays, warm the water to the required temp on the stove, fire or kettle and plug the pump into the second battery. This gives us both a reasonable shower.

If you want to stay longer warm up two buckets. We use this system all the time even in caravan parks we also incorporate a small chemical toilet in the shower tent. It's surprising but the first few times you do it you will proberly make the water too hot.

The shower set up:
Pump $40.00 Wire etc. $25.00, the rest I had laying around in the shed.
I also had to enlarge the holes in the shower head to get a decent flow.

A lot cheaper and takes up very little room.

I familiar with and have owned these sort of things:Whitworths Marine: 12V Portable Shower

but water pressure was nothing fantastic, and hot water volume limited to a bucket that you have heated....apparaently, not enough water to wash ones hair.

We tried a heat exchanger shower unit in our D2, didn't work properly, I know some will say did you this brand, but we actually tried 3 different brands(we had friends with other brands) we tried them all the ways that are supposed to work but to no avail, in the end we went with a gas hot water system in the camper.

Oh and there is no need to cut hoses if you want to try it, just take the metal pipe off that is bolted to the head on the passenger side, fit the exchanger in place of it.

It's climate control that is the problem, it would probably work in a Defender.
