    new fangled radio's

    Dang!
how long have radio's picked up song titles and displayed them?

Just as I am set to replace the HK it does something really clever.

The feature has been available on high end units and hi-fi receivers for many years. What hadn't been available was the actual broadcast signal. This only really became available in Australia over the last decade, maybe a little longer. Overseas it's so common that it's no longer just the high end units that have the feature.

The other function is the Traffic signal that interrupts the radio to give road condition information. I undertand this is starting to come in, in Australian cities. Not that I need it up here

    Pedro,
Can i ask why you want to ditch the HK radio?

If you want to play iPod etc (not exactly sure just taking a guess), there is an adaptor from the US sites that will link up.

Also a friend at work has just purchased a Holder for iPod units that will auto seek & plugs into the cig lighter, bends to whatever angle you require & works brilliantly, not a huge loss of sound quality especially for an FM tuning unit.
I have a Kensington unit that plugs into the Aux. jack (which you dont have) & his works just as good as mine maybe even a little better

Hey Pedro ... for the MP3 thing I bought one of those cigarette lighter plug-in MP3 broadcast doovers ... plugs into the rear aux power socket, which means it's pointing straight at the FM antenna on the rear window, and accepts SD cards, USB sticks, and has a 2.5mm stereo aux input ... I load up a 4GB SD card with tunes (about 450 atm for 1/2 a card) and just leave it running 24/7 ... tuned into preset 6 on the FM radio so from the steering wheel I can switch between 5FM presets, MP3 FM preset, or a single CD ...

Works for me ! Good offroad when the CD player doesn't appreciate being bounced around.

    Kev..

... oh, and my LR Single CD/Radio displays radio station ID's & does the traffic thing ... don't thing it displays track names though.
