RR Sport 20" Wheels on Disco 2

    Hi All,

My Disco 2 rarely goes off road. I bought it mainly for it's ability to tow a tandem trailer with a race car on it.

It's due for new tyres so I was thinking of putting on a set of the 20" wheels and tyres from the RR Sport. There's some good deals on eBay for OEM style wheels at reasonable prices.

Are there any clearance issues etc with these wheels on a D2? What are the road manners like with these wheels?

My D2 has SLS and ACE

I'm not lowering it or anything and the 20" wheels and tyres have the same rolling diameter as the 16"s currently on it. I'm just after an updated look for the Disco 2 and some better on-road grip.

I can understand the purists not liking it but my D2 is not an off road basher. It's a daily driver, family wagon and tow rig. I've owned a 4x4 at the other end of the spectrum with lifted suspension and super swampers. It was great off road but a pig as a daily drive.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Cheers

    Michael

    If Ihad the spare cash,,
the VERY first thing Iwould do to my 18" d2 would be to put 16's back on,,
the ride with 18's is ****!

I think it is possible, if you use the correct wheel nuts.

Having said that, I think it won't be legal and it won't be nice to drive. It will ride roughly and tramtrack badly.

Should be able to use them legally, the overall diameter over standard hasnt increased.
Load rating needs checking,if they are factory rims, the load rating should be OK.
As Scouse points out, centralising rings that go on the hubs are needed.
Can imagine the ride wold be quite harsh.
If you want it to look different,VE Commodore alloys fit, weight rating MAY be an issue.
There is a P38a over here with VE SS Alloys, looks good and different. Will add a link shortly.

D2/P38a are identical fits wheel wise.

Maybe you should negotiate a swap - not 20's but at least Disco Mick would be half way there

Well it's a moot point now. I just had some more road friendly tyres fitted to the 16" wheels. Kumho KL51 4x4 kl51

They seem to be quiet and smooth riding so far. I figure ride is probably more important than looks.

    Thanks for the input guys.

My understanding is you can go plus 1 inch and plus 2 inches in diameter over standard. I guess you could argue that 20 inches is plus 2 over the optional 18s. I still think it would be horrible .
