    traction control TD5disco2

First of all, I have to say please forgive me for my lack of knowledge. The concept of diff. lockers and traction control is as alien to me as understanding women. In a nutshell, if you have traction control, would diff lockers be an advantage, or just something to boast about to your mates , and can they work together. Cheers

the CDL on a landy makes both diffs turn at the same speed.
lockers make each axle attached to that diff turn at the same speed.

Traction control attempts to achieve the same thing by applying the brakes to the wheel that is spinning excessively (think ABS in reverse)

having a locker installed and enabled will override the action of the TC because the wheels are not able to spin in relation to each other.

    Hey Bob
    YES and YES.
    Easy question.
MOST IMPORTANTLY.Have you got the CDL(centre diff lock) connected???
If its a D2 they had the CDL internals fitted but not useable in the early models,ie 99 to 01.They then had no CDL internals fitted at all. With the release of the D2a,the update headlight model, the CDL internals were re-introduced and made operateable too.
BEFORE you spend money on diff locks, you NEED to spend money on an operational CDL.
Traction control is good, much better with a lockable CDL.The decision then is DO YOU REALY NEED TRUE lockers???
The D2 performs really well with the CDL in.

    cdl

That makes sense Landy Andy, for the type of off road driving I would do, the cdl would be enough, I would think. By what you say, my 1999 d2 should have that capability, but mate, how would would I know- sorry to sound so ignorant, but this is my first 4x4, and I'm wrapped in my Disco .

In 1999 & 2000 the transfer case had the internals and you need to add the linkage into the cab as per this

    http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...-disco-ii.html

$700 from a wreckers or a manufactured after market version from the UK is around $900 (these were the prices I found 2 months ago).

slide under the vehicle and put your hand up over the front propshaft, slide it back towards the transfer case and then on the top of it you will feel a small stud, its threaded on top and has flats to take a 10mm spanner on the bottom.

if you have that then a CDL is in the tcase and you just need something to activate it.
