    Battery in Rear Bin

    Hi all
Has anyone who has installed an auxillary battery in the rear used the drivers side bin? I'm about to, but just realised it is quite close to the fuel filler etc.
Any issues with this anyone can see?

Im going to run the cabling to the battery through the car along the door sills but I'm also not 100% sure how to run from inside the rear to outside the rear to fit an anderson plug. Any helpful advice (and pics) would be most appreciated. Have spent some time today prepping rear bin for batteyr installation, and going to attempt to fit rest of Tim's traxide kit tomorrow, if my complete lack of mechanical and electrical knowledge, skill and concepts will allow.

    wish me luck.

There has been a couple of threads on this but unsure if it was drivers or passenger side bin..
Do a search think the thread was called 2nd battery another way, or something like that, had pics and all, so should help..

    Hi All
I have installed a battery in the rear left hand bin works quite well. I ran my cables under the disco as they were thick as a battery cable and bought them up behind the rear lights.

Do you mean actually IN the bin,,
    or just in the space?

The easiest interior access is through the vents at the bottom of the D pillar.

Thanks for that Doug. Why in particular did your choose the left hand bin? Is it easy getting from the rear lights to under the car? I need to run an anderson plug from the aux battery to the rear of the car for hooking up a camper trailer.

    Cheers

    Hi All
There was no particular reason for placing the battery in the left hand bin maybe it was the easiest to get to I had a tray made up and drilled through the base of the bin and made spacers to sit the tray level its been in there for about 5 years now without any problems the only thing to watch out for is a rubber mounted disc I think it has something to do with the ventilation. I will see if I can find some pic's and post them.

    Paul,
I've fitted 2x50hr Orbitals in the RHR bin. I ran two lines of huge cable from the start battery down beside the shock tower to the chassis rail and then along the top of the chassic rail to the back of the car using zip ties along the way to keep it neat. The cable I used was double sheathed so no need for conduit or worry about the elements.

I bought the cable up the cavity and entered the cabin via an existing blank grommet. I used sikaflex to seal her up. Mounting was achieved via three u-bolts through the floor, secured underneath and treated with that rubber sealing spray they use on wheel arches etc to avoid corrosion. The front battery is up against the fuel filler wall so a u-bolt would have pushed the battery into the load space too much so I used a length of make-a-bracket, folded to remove sharp edges and fixed using the captive nuts for the rear aircon compressor (I think that is what they are for). Two cam locks holds them in place and after 2yrs they haven't come loose. Can detail the wiring if needed.
