It could be a valley gasket but it could also be a weeping head gasket.
Get the car up on ramps & use a good torch - you should be able to see a telltale stain (or even the leak) if it's a head gasket.
I got a new water leak I have slowly been loosing coolant last few weeks with no sign and have had a bit of back pressure in expansion tank, I appeared to be losing coolant there. So I panicked thinking that it was a head gasket issue, but after I got a sniff test done, was reassured of it not being this, then on the past couple of days with a long drive being undertaken I think I have finally found the leak it appears to be coming from somewhere near back of engine and running down bell housing on drivers side. I'm thinking valley gasket does this sound correct?
If so looks fairly easy to do for a home mechanic with a rave cd.
What do the pros think am i on the right track and should i attempt myself.
any tips would be appreciated.![]()

Could it be coming from one of the hoses that run over the back of the engine? Take the accoustic cover and if a TD5 take the turbo heat shield off and have a look. Their are a couple of rubber connections to the metal pipes that run over th eback of the engine.
check to fuel cooler tank on the driver side under the inlet manifold.
that's my 2cents worth....
If he's talking valley covers,,
its safe to ASSUME its an 8,,,,
and yes they do leak from there,
if a new leak should be a nice orange colour stain--

Sorry guys yes it's a v8. I've had a good look with a torch can't see much at back of engine it appears to come from below core pack(think that's what its called) all hoses in that area seam ok. It's running down from top of bell housing somewhere if head gasket it's where it meets valley cause it's dry along gasket that you can see
