    Dual mass flywheel

    Hi Guys,

I have my 2nd new transfer case from Triumph Rover spares in SA. Trevor from Brit parts service in Perth pulled down the first one to replace the thrust washers and found some water had got in inside probably during cleaning. A quick call to Triumph Rrover spares and a replacement box was on its way . I was impressed with the service the new one arrived in a few days and is off a very late model with low K's.

While crawling under the disco I noticed a new oil leak around the sump area. Looks like I might have a rear main seal gone as well. So I thought I will bite he bullet and replace the clutch as well while fitting the new t/ fer case etc. I have had a noisey spigot bearing for a while in the mornings when cold and an occasional rough idle at the lights.

A clutch it is around $540 which is not to bad but I just found about

DUAL MASS FLYWHEELS I have googeled and Utubed and now understand why they are fitted but was not ready for the cost. $1000 for a flywheel on top of al the rest. After the new paint job courtesy of the hail storm I will have almost a brand new Disco. I suppose I have not done too bad as have just crossed 180,000 ks and never had to replace anything other than a fuel distributer.

My brother on the other hand is on his 3rd gear box in his landcruiser Troopy and the all up cost to replace was $6000. He has also done a rear diff.

Been thru the same thing as you, make sure your clutch fork is included in the kit if not replace it as well,,
You can pick up heavy duty cluych kits cheaper than that on e-bay or shop around try stuart at rovercraft..

You can get the faces of the flywheel machined if you have the time.I replaced my flywheel at 230,000kms,

With your kms it maybe worth checking it first before forkimg out for 1 straight up..

    Cheers Ean

Most of the late jappers also run the dual mass flywheel.
If you steer a Pajahero or Pootrol look at around $3000 for the flywheel We have 2 Rodeo utes at work with dodgy flywheels, both delivered on the same day, mines done 180000k,the other wouldnt even have 100000km on it!!!!
Makes our expensive pommy marques seem even more affordable to own/LOVE/repair

    done that

I have done the intercooler about 2 years back was $1000 then. Trev called from Britrish 4x4 repairs. The leak I thought was rear main seal is just tappet cover running down and sump plug washer. The rear mainseal is a dry as a dead dingos donnger but we have decided to still go ahead and do the flywheel ,rear main , clutch and spigot while its up on the hoist. With the new t/fer case withn a CDL I will be going places that will probably put a bit more stress on the drive train. I would much rather replace a clutch in the workshop than on a beach somewhere. Seen that being done at Fraser Island a couple of years back jjust above the high tide. I am thinkng of the chip upgrade how much and howlong is it off the road for. I also see Turbo Tech on the Great Eastern Hwy is selling a plug in item that is supposed to lift performance.

What year is the D2 Mike????
The ECU upgrade is SIMPLE(via nanocom) if it has the later NNN prefixed flastuneable ECU(2001 onwards).
MSB prefixed is a exchange ECU as the chip actualy has to be soldered in.
The pug ins are a waste of money, more expensive and only do half the job.Tombie2(Mike Hays) is the man.He will email the programme and one of us can put it in,I did Aaron40's for him and adjusted the wastegate to suit.
