4.0 or 4.6 that is the question?

    G'day everyone.
Quick question here. I have a 2003 V8 discovery and not sure if it is 4.0 or 4.6 L. The engine number does not seem to tell me unless it is in code?? Does anyone know how to tell the difference easily?? thanks for your time.

I think you can find your engine capacity in your car rego details. I think all D2's in Australia can with 4.0 from the factory. In the States they can with the 4.6 as standard.

    Cheers

By simply typing a random engine number prefix in the "search" box I have found this:

If the engine fitted is as built it will be a 4.0.

As noted by others, all Australian spec D2 V8s were 4.0 engines.

    Red book is your freind...
    Disco 2 V8 Eng No : 55 or 56D####A (55 / 56 depending on MY)
    4.6lt range Rover...48D00021A
If you have the books, the eng no (found on the block left side of engine) should match with that written in the book. As should the VIN.

    Smile problem resolved

Hello again. For those of you interested there is a web site Clifton Scientific Text Services, the Netherlands that can do a calculation on your VIN# and give you all the info you need to know about the code.
