Have a question that hopefully someone here can shed some light on.
Have an 02 td5 with 100'000k on the clock, problem is when ever i fill her up the gauge is always a notch or two from full, and then will drop another notch within ~50km...
Only purchased her a couple of days ago, so maybe back to the dealer...
Anyone have an idea/fix?![]()

I doubt your problem was similar to mine Lucy.. unfortunately!
Mine was pretty simple, I realised whilst refilling that with diesel it's a bit like pouring a beer, to fast and you get a foamy head, that can cut off the bowser prematurely. So with this in mind, after the cut off i trickled untill the dieso could be seen in the filler neck and presto! problem solved.

right, well somethings definately wrong with the fuel reading, having reset the odometer at a full top up I have since travelled ~120km, my gauge is down to just over half.. engine is not running rich/rough from what I can tell... Could this be a fuel sender?
The trick is to go back to the same fuel pump and re-fill. This will give you an acurate measure of the fuel use.
Once you know this, and with the knowledge of the tank capacity, use the trip meter as your fuel gauge.
eg if you have done 120k and used 12lts then you are getting 12 lts (fuel) / 1.2 (hundred kays) = 10 lts per 100k. tank holds 95lts (work to 90 to have a reserve) means a range of 90lts / (10l /100k) = 900km per tank.
Now you can see if the gauge is linear or wether the 1st 1/2 disappears quicker than the 2nd 1/2, by going the distance.
Now you will have "calibrated" your gauge and cost nothing.
Reset your trip meter and away you go.
