    Interesting and the first I've heard of that.
    Might ask on LR4x4 if anyone in the UK has heard of that too.

    FWIW I just found this comment from Frida Turner (of Turner Engineering) on LR4x4

    The Land Rover genuine 300TDI cylinder heads were manufactured in Brazil.

    There is a replacement head manufactured in Argentina but the quality is poor.

    Spanish replacement heads are of excellent quality.

    Thumbs up Great to here!

    I have just replaced a cracked head for my 300TDI. I purchassed the high performance head form Turner Engineering and must say the service was excellent as is the performance difference this particular head made to my 130. I ordered the head on Friday morning and it was at my desk at my work the following Monday morning. My mechanic could not believe it and the price.

    Head replacement update pls

    Hi to those of you that posted a reply that you replaced your cylinder head, from various sources, are you able to provide a long term appraisal of your choice. Any problems?

    I might be up for a cylinder head (had a bad case of welsh plug leak, dropping all my cooling fluid while driving). Mechanic did a CO2 test which came up OK, but that's not fool proof if the crack(s) is fine. The next long drive will be the marker of internal damage.

    Done 95k with an AMC head till now & running hot fuel maps on my personal rig. Absolutely no problems and I've done around 14 TD5 rebuilds with AMC heads now, all good.

    What is it with our respective SWMBO, we have just fixed the car which they think was a waste of money, to then turn around and sell it.

    To me that is false economy because unless you by a new car under a warranty you could very well have the same or more problems and more costs. Even the new ones can eat a hole in your pocket.

    If "something more sensible" is a Nissan or Toyota, it is just that those manufacturers turn a blind eye to the glaring and offen more expensive floors in their vehicles. All you need to do is read some of their products forums to see the problems that owners complain about regarding their pride & joys.

    If I was you I would be keeping the vehicle once repaired, because if you keep it regularly maintained and serviced the problems are generally few. But I do feel your pain as I bought my 2000 D2 TD5 for about $15K on road 4 or so years ago with 221K on the clock. I think I have spent about the same fixing all the usual and un-usual issues these have and I now have an excellent vehicle that I feel runs rings around the other makes. It has now bee about 12 to 18 mhts since the last major issue that I didn't create. But in that time I seriously thought of getting rid of it for what ever I could, the time an effort has paid off.

    The big thing with these cars, no matter how old, they need to be listened to, regularly given the once over and it some thing shows up deal with it immediately. It will cost less and lengthen the longeviety of the vehicle and thwart the large expense issues.

    That's my take, take it or leave it, but I think you will be hard pressed to find better.
