Why hilux? why not something tougher like GQ or GU...
I'm not at all convinced that a GQ setup is stronger and it costs clearance. The problem with the GQ's is the CV's. GU.... totally and I think they are wider, but expensive! Both Patrol diffs are centre drop at the rear, and although the shouldn't cause vibrations, it seems that they do.
80/100 diffs are another option which are good as they have the correct drops, but both come back to Hilux diff sized from diffs.
The only option really is axles from Buds Customs in QLD.
okay here is a update on the conversion my custom rear axels from Keith Rover tracks are ordered these have a inner of 30 spline and a outer of 24 spline with the strenght of his axels they going to be awesome these axels are going to be sitting in a toyo V6 housing with 4.56 diff ratio and a DETROIT locker , these are getting built by Chase from East coast gear supply with there competion repution in diff setup no doubt it will be top quality now the front is toyo V6 center with 4.56 ratio and ARB locker with side gears changed to 24 spline to fit my ashcroft axels and cvs after speaking to Keith (rovertracks) ashcroft axels /cv's are actually made by longfields so not much point in changing front axels as they will handle it
so with this al ordered now should be a couple of weeks and be up and running in the mean time going to be doing the welding and redrill a few more holes in the housing to acomadate the new toy centers
am super excited about my custom axels:D
cheers kelvin
will take pictures once i recieve everything
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't JMac in Vic already do this Hilux conversion of the Rover diff with JMac axles:confused:
Baz.
yes they do for D1 rangies but not D2 but with shipping ect the axels are still way cheaper
No 30 spline to the hubs at the rear??? If not, it would be a stonger setup to run 24 spline at the diff also otherwise you concentrate the flex at the hub end of the axle and you'll reduce its effective strength by not allowing it to flex evenly along it. You can also then continue to use off the shelf axles such as what you already have and no need to purchase customs that will be a PITA to get out - they wont just slide out like normal. I would recommend run a full 24spline or run a full 30 spline, not a blend.
Also I don't think you can run the V6 housing on the front, the only low pinion setup that will work is the JacMac one that has the casting designed to clear the tie rod. The front needs to be done in/as a hi-pinion which come from the front of a LandCruiser 80 or 100.
i hear what you say about off the shelf and 2 different splines concentrating at the hub but to run the toyo detroit in the rear i have no other option you can not get 30 spline hubs for a D2 ,the front setup is a high pinion ,if i could have a desent conversation with jacmac without him saying i am wasting his time and hanging up on me i would probarly buy his gear but when you got US companies with awesome customer service and a will to help you well i know where my money is going
Sorry, I forgot it was a D2. You cant run 30spline at the hub anyway.
I'm pretty sure the V6 housing was just a rear diff with additional bracing etc but still low pinion. Toy didn't do a HP rear. The front diffs on the V6s I'm pretty sure were all smaller IFS diffs that break with more ease than Rover diffs.
Yeah, I last heard that he was getting better if it's Jeff that you're talking about. Shame, it loses him a lot of business, but with TJM he is probably at capacity and cares even less.
Its been months Kelvin, what's happening?
