    What to Do ?????

I own a 2002 disco td5 with SLS and I am look to do some upgrades after Christmas on the car. I want to put in a 2 inc lift but the airbags in the car at the moment keep going down so I think they are stuffed the car has 160000kms. My question is replace the air bags and if so were is the best place to order new onces or do I put coils in the back.

My wife drives the car the most look to set the car up to do Cape York and other remote trips. I am also look at putting long range tanks in the car App 160lts and will be towing a camper trailer

If I keep the air bags will I need extend the ABS line and Brake line to use the 4WD mode.

I replaced my SLS with coils, I was sick of worrying about when the next time they'd go down would be. I honestly haven't noticed a he'll of alot of difference but thus far I haven't done any heavy towing and it's stayed pretty much on the highway, plan to do a bit more off road eventually but IMO, airbags have the potential to be a pain, springs I feel are more reliable, some might say boring but, hey, opinions are like bum holes, everyones got one and they all stink

You could go the coil option and fit polly air bags inside them for the best of both worlds. Good for when towing.

    Hello Skellz

Get some replacement air bags(try Paddock spares) and do it yourself. It takes less than an hour from go to whoa and that includes putting the tools away. A very easy job. Go to www.discovery2.co.uk , and look under faults and fixes. An easy job. Bugger the springs, SLS and ACE is far better than springs any day.

    Cheers,

    Jason

    Hi Skellz,

Definitely keep the SLS !! I replaced my original bags with new ones - as Jason says it's a very easy and quick job. I got mine from Land Rover Parts, Accessories and Spares From Brookwells

I also upgraded to Koni's and the ride and handling is great.

With the long range tanks and towing you'd have to put pretty tough springs in the back to keep the height right - but your ride/comfort would suffer when unladen. Thats why SLS is so good - the spring rate automatically adjusts to the load you're carrying so you retain the supple ride when laden or unladen.

    Hope the upgrades go well.
    Cheers

As Pedro has said the Good Oil will give you ALL the info you need.

Just do not buy the bags from the US. You will regret it.

    cheers

    My 2c.

Airbags from Arnotts in US are cheap but most will tell you earlier versions failed dramatically. For the past 6 months they have been supplying a re-designed version (this will be version 3) with better top crimp ring. I had a close look and did think this time maybe got it right. I do not have any info though to gauge exactly how reliable these are.

Also, A lot of homework's been done and Airbags from places recommeded on AULRO are pretty cheap now when compared to LR "genuine" replacements ($840ea last quote I got from LR).

Also Also, I swapped for coils on rear as even after fitting new compressor and new airbags I was still not confident because at every traffic light stop the rear would "hunt" down 1" then up until level , that concerned me.

Also Also Also, I do miss the auto levelling, but dont think my ride is any different now. I run King Springs and Bilstein Shock all round (on a 2" lift)
